HEMOPHILIA A:
This site is filled with information available for families affected by Hemophilia A. Hemophilia, a relatively modern disorder that was discovered by Doctors Patek and Taylor at Harvard University in 1937, is a rare bleeding disorder where the blood doesn't clot normally. People born with hemophilia generally inherit a genetic mutation that inhibits the development of the blood clotting factor, a protein need for normal blood clotting. Because the disease is a sex-linked disorder, males are more likely to inherit it. Only 1 in 10,000 males and 1 in 20,000 females born are affected by the disorder. People with hemophilia may bleed for a longer time than others after an injury. They may also bleed internally, especially in joints. This bleeding can damage organs or tissues and may be life threatening. While there is no cure for the disorder, modern science allows physicians to control the disease.Families affected by hemophilia should understand how the disease is inherited, how it can be managed, and how to live with it. We hope this site provides a valuable source on your journey.
